This tour will lead you through the Dutch province of South Holland, always starting from the shore, as a dense network of canals connects these well worth seeing towns and cities. Amsterdam, Utrecht, Delft, Gouda, Rotterdam, as well as the UNESCO world heritage site of Kinderkijk and the famous open air museum of Zaanse Schans - these are only some of the highlights of this cycling tour in South Holland, which is perfectly suited for both expert cyclists and beginners.

Day 1 Arrival in Amsterdam
Embarkation 3 - 5 pm, leaving enough time to discover Amsterdam's historical centre, which is best done on a canal boat.

Day 2 Boat trip, Zaandam, excursion to Zaanse Schans, approx. 30 km
Today you cycle to the Zaanse Schans open-air museum, the oldest 17th century industrial area in the world.

Day 3 Zaandam - Gouda, approx. 40 km
Either you cycle directly to Gouda, e.g. for the windows of St. John's Church, or you stroll through the Reeuwijkse Plassen lake landscape.

Day 4 Boat trip, Rotterdam - Scheveningen, approx. 35-85 km/22-53 mi
Today, you will again have several routes to choose from: A tour around Rotterdam’s harbour, to Delft’ Porcelain manufactory, or you can cycle to the North Sea beach.

Day 5 Rotterdam - Schoonhoven, approx. 43 km/27 mi
Today’s highlights include the windmill parade in Kinderdijk and the “Silver City” of Schoonhoven.

Day 6 Schoonhoven - Utrecht, approx. 40 km/25 mi
This cycle tour leads through the polder land into the important University town of Utrecht, boasting interesting neighbourhoods both old and new.

Day 7 Utrecht -Amsterdam, approx. 50 km
Numerous castles and villas are situated on the idyllic Vecht River, which takes you back to Amsterdam.

Day 8 Disembarkation, departure or extension
After breakfast, your bike holiday in South Holland sadly reaches its conclusion. Disembarkation until 9:00 am.

The booking process

The Tour



  • Arrival by car:
    There are different options of parking your car for the duration of the trip. In any case, please drive to the quay first and bring your luggage and (if applicable) personal bike aboard. Then
    - Drive to the car park. Costs are approx. EUR 160 / week and a bus will take you back to the boat.
    - Make use of our parking service. We will arrange for your car to be picked up from the quay, stored safely and returned to the ship. Your vehicle is insured against all types of damage or theft and will be parked in a protected underground facility. Cost: approx. EUR 150 / week.
    - Make use of the free parking space P&R at the train station in Weesp. Back to Amsterdam Centraal station by train, duration approx. 15 minutes, cost approx. EUR 4.
    - If you choose to book an extra night, this will include complimentary parking service for the duration of your trip. See below for details.
  • Arrival by train:
    Amsterdam Centraal station, get the 48 bus to the quay, duration approx. 10 minutes, cost approx EUR 3.
  • Arrival by plane:
    Shiphol Airport, take the train to Amsterdam Centraal station (approx. 20 minutes, approx. EUR 5), followed by the 48 bus to the quay (approx. 10 minutes / EUR 3)
    Alternatively, get a taxi from the airport to the quay, cost: approx. EUR 45 per vehicle. There are several private and scheduled providers, see e.g. here.

Personal bikes:
In principle, you can bring your own bike along. However, please note that your bike will be loaded on and off the boat twice a day along with several others and therefore slight cosmetic damage to individual bikes cannot be ruled out, which is why we do not take responsibility or liability for such damage. We recommend reserving one the excellent rental bikes we offer.

Extra night:
In Volendam, you can book an extra night in the beautiful 4* hotel Van der Valk Volendam, either before or after your bike holiday. The price includes parking for the entire duration of your trip, 2 bus tickets and visitor's tax. Connections between the hotel and the quay / the town centre Amsterdam by bus (312 and 316), duration approx. 20 minutes.

Perfectly looked after:
During your tour, we are available between 8 am and 8 pm, 7 days a week. We are happy to help with any kind of problems you might be having. You will find this emergency number in your travel documents.

Please note:
As is the case with all boat trips, changes in travel itineraries due to the weather, the rivers’ water levels or technical issues can be undertaken at any time.
